Planning & Strategy

Strategy is your long term planning for your organisation. Strategy is the responsibility of your board of trustees but may be strongly supported by your Chief Executive and senior managers. Strategy starts with being clear about what your mission is and what your vision for the future it, what you want to achieve. This is linked to your objectives in your constitution. Developing a strategy is crucial to avoiding organisational drift and ensuring that you you are fullfilling your proper purpose. It can enable you to ensure that what you deliver is led by the needs of your service users rather than the needs of your organisation and staff. It is also important to maximising your success as an organisation. Many organisations have strategy away days which include staff and trustees. These may form part of an annual planning review process.

Evidence of strong strategic planning, often in the form of a good business plan, is now required by many major funders.
