Key local organisations providing training
The Working Together Project (WTP)
Provides free training to community groups and voluntary organisations. The broad areas of training are: organisational development, management, personal development skills, finance and law, and fundraising. All WTP's training events respond directly to outreach and ongoing consultation with local organisations.
WTP may also be commissioned to provide training for your organisation on request.
SCIP
Provides training in everyday computer skills for charities and communities.
The Resource Centre
Can offer additional training support to some groups. Go to www.resourcecentre.org.uk/information/support.asp
At the moment, additional services are available to:
- Brighton and Hove Council tenants' associations
- Groups based in areas of social housing and run by local people
- Groups based in minority ethnic communities
- Groups run by disabled people
These additional training services include:
- one-to-one tailored training and advice sessions, covering topics such as computer skills; keeping accounts; developing a fundraising strategy; drawing up a constitution
- town-wide training workshops (Brighton & Hove Council tenants' associations only)
Trust for Developing Communities
Provides the Working in Community Organisations (WICO) course.
Safety Net
SafetyNet offers regular training to voluntary and community sector groups in child protection and a personal safety programme called Protective Behaviours and a bullying prevention scheme in schools.
Training includes:
- protective Behaviours,
- child safety and protection,
- communicating and working with children,
- working with parents,
- assertiveness,
- conflict resolution and
- bullying prevention skills.
