Public Sector and Government

Working with the public sector

The community and voluntary sector interacts with statutory agencies across the city and beyond, at all sorts of levels and in many different ways.  Some organisations receive grants from statutory bodies or provide services through a contractual arrangement.  Many community and voluntary organisations are well placed to advocate on behalf of their service users, providing guidance to statutory partners on what services should be provided where, how and so on.  Relationships are complex but important to ensure that the support provided by the sector and its experience in meeting the needs of hard to reach groups is embedded within citywide strategies and programmes.

The 2020 Community Partnership, Brighton and Hove's Local Strategic Partnership, brings together representatives from different sectors in the city and aims to develop a strategic vision for Brighton & Hove and to oversee that vision's implementation, monitoring and review.  Within this overarching framework sits a number of strategic partnerships, such as the Learning Partnership, Healthy City Partnership and Stronger Communities Programme Partnership.

Following the lead of central Government, the local Community and Voluntary Sector and all aspects of local and regional Government have come together to develop a Compact for Brighton & Hove.  Increasingly both sectors are required to work together to establish more co-ordinated planning and action to deliver solutions, innovation, continuous service improvement and renewed local democracy.  Our local compact provides the basis for developing and creating new approaches to partnership working and play a central role in supporting the development of constructive working relationships.
