Equal Opportunities - Policy Framework and Implementation Checklist
This information sheet is separated into three sections - "Steps for Developing Equal Opportunities Policies", "A Model Framework" and "An Implementation Checklist". The first section sets out the steps for developing an equal opportunities policy for use in the voluntary sector. The 'model' policy provides a framework for reflection, training and action. It outlines a framework in equal opportunities that groups and organisations can be striving towards. The "implementation checklist" provides you with a quick check of the current health of your group regarding its equal opportunities. it can also be used for the purposes of debate and planning of future action. Writing an Equal Opportunities Policy
Your equal opportunities policy does not have to be long and fancy: a simply worded, one side of A4 paper would be fine. The most important thing is that you have thought about what you put in it, that it's useful for your group and that you will and can do what you have said. There is no point in having a policy that is written hastily, then put in a drawer and forgotten about.
The Resource Centre information sheet Writing an Equal Opportunities Policy is a straightforward guide with three sample policies for you to look at.
The Resource Centre Library also has a range of publications to help you address issues of diversity and inclusion.
