Resource Centre
Finance support
- Free information sheets on managing money, budgeting, charity reporting and accounts, bank accounts for community groups (available to all groups)
- Free one to one support with financial management, and free examination of accounts service. These are only available to our priority groups (those based in areas of predominantly social housing, those based in minority ethnic communities, and those run by disabled people) [NB these services are also free for other groups with annual income below £35,000, available from the Money in Mind project through Impact]
Fundraising support
- Print room – low cost printing and colour copying, plus equipment for finishing documents – useful for publicity for events, brochures, business plans, etc (available to all groups)
- Equipment hire – games for fundraising events, projectors and laptops for presentations, video cameras for promotional films, collecting tins. Hire charges very low (avail to all groups)
- Free information sheets on good sources of funding and fundraising techniques (all groups)
- Free access to www.trustfunding.org.uk (small charge for computer use) and reference library with books on fundraising and directories of funders (all groups)
- Free one to one support with fundraising and event organisation. Includes help with drafting grant applications, developing fundraising strategy. – only for priority groups
HR and volunteer support
- Free one to one support with any aspect of running a group (could include developing policies on volunteering, working more effectively as a committee, registering as a charity, producing effective publicity, skills training for new committee members – eg taking minutes, computer skills, chairing meetings). Only for priority groups.
Community Base
Fundraising support
- Community Base offers community and voluntary groups in Brighton and Hove help with fundraising by providing free access to the Director of Social Change’s comprehensive guide to UK grant funding trusts. If you want to use this service just email or phone Community Base’s reception on (01273) 234000 to get a time when you can access the site from any online computer.
HR and volunteer support
- Community Base runs Brighton and Hove community job search, a free service allowing charities, community groups, health agencies and local government to promote vacancies for not-for-profit, community jobs in and around Brighton and Hove to people looking specifically for local community jobs. Vacancies are emailed to anyone subscribing to the service, listed until their closing date on Community Base’s website and listed until their closing date in a folder in Community Base’s reception.
- Community Base runs Brighton and Hove volunteer search, a free service allowing community and voluntary groups with volunteer opportunities in Brighton and Hove to promote these opportunities online and in folders in Community Base’s reception.
BMCEP
Finance support:
- BMECP provides free one to one support to BME groups in relation to finance and this can be offered to others for a small fee as BMECP is not funded to provide the service
Fundraising support:
- One to One fundraising support for BME groups. This service is currently offered free from BMECP
Care Co-ops
Fundraising support:
Consultancy and support at £30 per hour – open to all groups on the following areas:
- Contracts and commissioning with the local authority and PCT
- Social Enterprise: developing ideas and starting the process.
- Personalisation: moving towards personalised services in difficult times
- Marketing your business through social media - an introduction
- Business planning: vision, aims and objectives
HR and volunteer support
Consultancy and support at £30 per hour – open to all groups on the following areas:

- Trustee recruitment and development
Impetus Volunteer Centre
HR and volunteer support:
- Support to voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises to help build a volunteering programme and develop good practice in the way that they work with volunteers including those with additional support needs. Examples include – working with the organisation to develop or review a volunteering policy/handbook, delivery of in house staff training on working with volunteers (£150 per day)
- Good practice information on-line (free)
- Volunteer Co-ordinators’ Forum to those who have direct responsibility for the management of volunteers (free)
- Brokerage service to organisations requiring volunteers (free)
