Cabinet Office Risk Capital Investment Fund for Social Enterprises

This new ?10m Risk Capital fund for Social Enterprises has recently been announced by the Office of the Third Sector.the fund will focus on the critical start up and early growth stages of social enterprise development. The ?10m government investment will be matched by private and independent investors and the scheme will be managed by an independent fund manager appointed via a tendering process. Under the rules of the scheme the Government will make the same rate of return on investments as independent investors. It is expected that the fund will open to applications in the Autumn 2008.

Cabinet Office: Office of the Third Sector

Part of the Cabinet Office, the Office of the Third Sector (OTS) leads work across government to support the environment for a thriving third sector (voluntary and community groups, social enterprises, charities, cooperatives and mutuals), enabling the sector to campaign for change, deliver public services, promote social enterprise and strengthen communities. The OTS was created at the centre of government in May 2006 in recognition of the increasingly important role the third sector plays in both society and the economy.

CAFOD

Funding is available to groups and organisations in England and Wales, which are involved in global justice education work and that are in a position to further the strategic goals and education priorities of CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.The deadline for applications for grants of more than ?3,000 is 14 December 2007. Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation

The UK Branch of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has a reputation for recognising and initiating innovative ideas. The Foundation focuses on a few specific grant priorities in any one year in order to do them justice these change every two or three years. The current priorities for the four programmes ? arts education, social welfare and Anglo-Portuguese Cultural Relations ? are set out in a leaflet Advice to applicants

CAN

CAN are an organisation that supports social entrepreneurs scale up their businesses and maximise their social impact. They do this by offering flexible office spaces, business support and financial assistance. Their website includes a recently launched free directory of social entrepreneurs, social enterprises and enterprising charities.

Capacity Builders

Capacitybuilders is a non-departmental public body (NDPB) which manages the ChangeUp programme and aims to work with other funders to build the capacity of the Third Sector.

Capacity Builders - Improving Reach

The 2008/11 programme will provide funding for smaller organisations who provide support services to voluntary organisations working with disadvantaged and marginalised communities.Three year grants of up to ?150,000pa will be offered to support projects that will achieve these outcomes: Smaller organisations have more skills and resources to provide support services to third sector frontline organisations which work with excluded communities. More frontline organisations working in and with excluded communities can get high-quality sector support services which are appropriate for them. The deadline for bids is 28 January 2008

Capital Learning Fund

Awards for Community and voluntary sector organisations in Brighton and Hove of between ?500 and ?5000 to encourage and improve access to learning for adults in Brighton and Hove.The fund is capital and cannot be used to support revenue costs associated with delivering teaching and learning in community settings. Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber Awards 2007 are open for entries to all Accredited Chamber members. Businesses have the opportunity to compete for the grand prize of ?25,000. Changes to Sport England Funding - New Funding Streams Under Development

Sport England is changing the way it distributes around ?45 million a year of National Lottery funding after a public consultation showed widespread support for its proposals.The responses to the consultation will help Sport England to develop the detail of the four new funding streams outlined in the consultation as follows: Regular themed funding rounds that meet specific needs of community sport. A programme of sustainable investment in facilities. A small grants scheme. An innovation fund to identify and pilot best practice in community sport. These programmes will ensure funding is awarded in a fair and flexible way to projects that will grow and sustain participation in sport. Sport England will be publishing full details of the application processes and award eligibility criteria for these new programmes at the start of 2009. The new programmes will be in place by 1 April 2009.

Charities Aid Foundation

Consultancy and Training Fund Grants
Designed to strengthen and develop small and medium-sized charitable organisations by providing low-cost consultancy and support for training. Support package includes up to 20 days of CAF consultancy with one of its consultants, financial support for external training costs and flexible funding for the organisations costs during this period. Grant value up to ?20k.Deadline: 17 November 2006 and 2nd Feb 2007

Charities Online Account Awards

Registered charities within the UK that publish their accounts and annual reports online are invited to enter this annual award scheme. The objective of the awards is to reward best practice and encourage more charities to provide their financial information online.Prize money is awarded to the charity that is judged to have the best annual reports and accounts in its income category. Winners will also receive certificate of commendation, a ticket to attend a charity event and a winner?s seal for their website. Runners-up and third place entrants receive a certificate of commendation and prize money. The deadline for receipt of applications is 28 November 2008.

Charity Association Manchester Ltd

Charity that works for a bank of clients, each of whom nominate their own charities. They do not invite applicants.

Charity Technology Enterprise

Through this programme, eligible UK-based charities are able to choose from over 140 donated technology products from Donor Partners such as Microsoft, Symantec and Cisco.The products include operating system software and server software, security software and hardware products such as switches, routers, wireless equipment and firewalls. Charities are required to pay a small Administrative Fee to cover the costs of the programme. Whilst the administrative fees vary, charities will still make savings of between 92-96% on typical retail prices.

Children Can Do

There are two types of grants available under this scheme. There are small grants of up to ?7000 for groups of children or community groups running activities for children to apply for. Our grants panel for this scheme includes children. There is ?30,000 available in small grants at each deadline. There are also large grants available for voluntary organisations, of up to ?20,000, but there is only ?20,000 available at each deadline.
