Food Standards Agency - Food Champion Awards

The Food Standards Agency is introducing the Food Champion Awards for local authorities, to recognise the tremendous work that local authorities undertake in the food arena. The Awards will focus specifically on the enabling role that the authority and its staff have fulfilled in delivering positive food-related outcomes in their locality. The Awards will build on the experience of the Agency?s existing awards scheme for community-based good practice ? the Sheila McKechnie Awards, which recognises community groups? achievements. In its initial pilot year, the Awards will have two themes: Improving local food safety and standards Improving community diet and nutrition Local authorities can apply for an award in both themes. Applications will be invited from 15 October 2007 to the end of the year and shortlisted local authorities will be asked to present their achievements to the panel in February 2008. The awards ceremony, hosted by the Agency, will be in March 2008. Visit:
